Especially now that Summer is coming to a close, it is more important than ever to have the same motivation of keeping fit as you had when you were chasing after that Summer body. The Winter months can potentially cause us to get a bit lazy and unmotivated. Fortunately, there are a couple of things you can do to ensure that you give your body the attention and care it deserves.
Treat Yourself Just One Day A Week
The holidays are jam-packed with many plates that may not be the best of choices for our bodies. However, we know that it’s inevitable that you’re going to give in and treat yourself every now and then.
To keep intake of these sorts of dishes at a minimum, set aside just one day a week where you allow yourself to eat your favorite foods. You don’t have to make it the exact day each week (although that would be ideal,) just make sure you limit it to one. Doing this will allow you to enjoy your holiday season without having to completely bail out on your diet & exercise plan!
Avoid The Alcohol
Holidays and reunions are often a popular excuse for people to take part in drinking activities. And there’s nothing wrong with that! However, most alcoholic beverages can contain nearly 100 calories per drink. More than one drink can really rack up your calorie count for the day.
To avoid all those empty calories, try alternating your alcohol with some other beverage. Now’s a great time to try out those zero-calorie drinks you always see at your supermarket. Some of them are actually very tasty!
Wash Your Hands
You may not have expected this one to make the list, but washing your hands can make a huge difference to your physical health. Washing germs away from your body can assure that your immune system is working at its maximum potential.
Plus, you’re much more likely to feel motivated to go to the gym rather than feel sick and slouchy. This can be especially effective due to the high amounts of shopping and physical contact you’ll be experiencing during the holiday season!
Just because the weather might be getting a bit colder doesn’t mean that you get to ditch your workout program! The key to staying physically fit is making sure you commit!
Set aside time out of your day or week to make sure you get your physical activity in. Try and make it fun too! Having thanksgiving dinner? Maybe you can go out and hunt for your food (if you are in an open area.) Celebrate Christmas? Go out and chop down your own tree rather than buy one at a store. The options are endless!
As fun as the holidays may be, it can often be a time of high-stress situations. Buying gifts for your loved ones, setting up parties and reunions, traveling in harsh conditions, the list goes on.
With all of this constant chaos, you owe it to your body to set some time aside for yourself and relax. Whether it’s meditation, reading a book, or even just watching your favorite TV show for a half hour, make sure you get the time you deserve to kick back and unwind. You’ll feel much more relieved that you did. And, much healthier.
